What is a soul’s calling?

I love inspired moments.

One happened recently and what flashed into my awareness was the term, “soul calling.”

It happened during a Zoom call with a lovely group of entrepreneurs, but the groundwork for my breakthrough was laid earlier that morning in a conversation with a new solopreneur friend.

Soul calling.

When you think of that term, what comes to mind?

Do you think, “soul purpose?”

Do you think it’s something that is the same message you get your entire life?

This is what I am exploring from that inspired thought, that heart-warming gift that came from within.

Soul calling, or a soul’s calling, is what lives deep inside your heart. It’s that inner voice that gives you hope. It connects you to who you truly are.

Your soul calling is sometimes loud, sometimes soft, yet it consistently yields a message that advocates for what you truly want in your life, and that’s different for each of us.

Your soul calling evolves throughout your life as you grow and evolve. This is what I love about the distinction I’m listening for in creating and defining “soul calling.” It’s different from “your soul’s purpose,” which some believe is some sort of designation that never changes and is why we’re here and what we’re meant to discover and find ways to live out.

I don’t necessarily agree with that assessment, but I can see why people seek it out and advocate for their self-discovered purpose.

I prefer to look at this inner desire as a soul’s calling, and I’m going to continue unpacking this inspired thought as it was given to me in a moment of asking, searching and yearning.

Since 2006 I have been running my business out of survival. The reason I’d been running my business out of survival was because I wasn’t listening for and leaning into my soul’s calling. It was a desire steeping inside like a steaming mug of Earl Grey on a frosty morning that made me feel safe, excited and intrigued to live out and express through my business.

I thought I was running my business the way I wanted, because, heck, I was the boss. It was my business and I did what I wanted. But if I’m going to be honest here, and that’s what my articles are all about, I was acting out of survival and going for the same brass ring I’d always gone for: pleasing my clients, overdelivering and using my creative skills and talent to create marketing assets they used in their business so I could earn just enough to “survive” on. My life experience trained me how to be a survivor, and I was adept at keeping myself safe and cloistered away from risk, conflict or pain.

But over the years, I became more confident. I kept sensing a “pebble in my shoe” that was my soul’s calling inviting me to step into my highest power, my highest joy, and where I am unmatched.

I’m discovering what that is.

I’m allowing myself to be a little bit woo, and listen more to my clients and prospects when they express their challenge. Their frustration. Their confusion.

And the answer flows from my heart when I give them full permission to start allowing their soul calling to surface.

And that’s what I want you to do for you. I want you to check in and listen. Be still. Ask your inner voice to speak a little louder so you can hear it.

You have a soul, calling you to follow your heart’s desire, and you don’t have to conform to anyone’s idea of what that is—it’s yours to cherish and express the way you want, 1000% you.

When you are living your soul’s calling you will feel relief, energy, inspiration and a level of performance you’ve never experienced. When you express and communicate your soul’s calling, the right people will magnetically flock to you. You’ll command the fees you have always dreamed of. You’ll produce incredible value. You’ll experience what it is to have a visceral impact. You’ll feel fulfilled. You’ll love your business. Your heart will swell with gratitude and a desire to give and inspire.
