What would Gary Vee say

I came across this sponsored post by Gary Vee. I’ve seen it before and checked it out because I’m always curious to see what he’s up to. All I have is cursory, armchair exposure to him through his books and prolific social media content. He’s a machine. He’s built a machine. I have enjoyed watching his evolution and maturation over the years since I read Crush It! in 2009.

As I pondered this particular image where he’s holding up a piece of foam core that I’m sure was blank and a designer on his team created the text in a font that looks hand written. He’s using Omaze to run this campaign as it’s charity-based. What I love about Gary (there are many things, actually) is that he spreads his vision wide, yet keeps a laser focus on his mission.

Gary Vaynerchuk Mentoring

He’s at the point in his majestic career where he has many, many resources to leverage, and a global, diverse audience. Of course he could run a mentoring program that benefits a charity!

As much as I’d like to write about Gary Vee and his impact, philosophy and smarts, and how one time I saw him in Orlando and got to stand up in the audience, hold a mic and ask him a question (that I don’t remember) was a special moment, I need to get back to the question:

What Would Gary Vee Say?

When I saw this ad, I said to myself, “If I won this contest and Gary was my mentor, what would he say?” So here is what I think he would say after I downloaded all of my desires, frustrations and told the story of my journey up to today.

  • The first thing Gary would say is he would acknowledge me for what I have accomplished thus far in my independence as a solopreneur, running a successful service business since 2006. He’d tell me that my passion and care for my clients and solopreneurs is palpable.

  • He’d say he gets where I focus, and really digs my branding of “lifestyle solopreneur,” as that speaks to life joy and creative self expression, which he supports.

  • He’d consider my target client and want to have a deeper discussion about the frustrations, challenges and goals they have so he could really understand who I want to serve.

  • He’d then bring it back to what I want. He’d ask me probing questions about how I want to run my business, what I want to get out of it, where I feel I can make the most impact and what would bring me the most joy.

  • Then he would do an assessment of the content I’m producing, from the branding to the pureness of “Terry” in it and the calls to action. He’d look for consistency and the aspects that make for great content marketing. And he’d tell me to publish and promote more frequently, I know he’d say that.

  • He’d give me incredible, very “Gary-esque” big picture ideas to market and position to a unique angle of the market I’m already serving. He’d offer up new ideas that expand my thinking and approach and I’d be impressed at his thought process. (Yes, I’m a fan, can you tell?)

The rest of what Gary would say to me is not as clear. In other words, I can’t predict it. Why? Because it would likely be tactical. It would be improving my brand clarity. It would be improving my content consistency and message. It would be partnerships. It would be Gary introducing me to two, three or four resources, platforms or people that would completely blow up my exposure and put my brand in front of people who have no clue who Terry Pappy is or what I do.

That’s how Gary thinks. That’s how Gary operates. That’s Gary’s formula for success. He leverages his breadth of knowledge and resources. And that’s why Gary’s going to make a buttload of cash from this mentoring promotion that benefits Pencils of Promise.

He’s meeting his goal by being Gary and leveraging what makes Gary, Gary.

So the next time you have a frustration or challenge around your business, put on your WWGVS hat and write about it. Project your inner Gary onto yourself and your business. See what comes up and what new ideas are there. And remember that Gary wins because he’s always been ALL GARY ALL THE TIME.🍀
