Obliterating the sleazy feeling from prospecting and selling

If you are committed to serving those you’re meant to serve and know that getting clients will make your business grow, sales becomes effortless.

Dump the sleaze and aim to please

Here are some things to think about that will help you shift into a powerful prospecting solopreneur when you have any selling reluctance or resistance because you think you are coming off as sleazy, pitchy or salesy.

  • If you’re desperate for money/income/clients, it will come across that way

  • Take care of your survivability before you prospect (make sure you have income that allows you to relax)

  • Be super clear and FEEL your value—when you are present to the value you bring and don’t have reservations about what you charge or the results you provide, your value is strong and makes you a more empowered communicator

  • Shift your mindset from “selling” to “serving,” but don’t get mired in “free consulting” where you are giving away coaching on sales calls (I used to do this a lot to compensate for my lack of understanding my value)

  • Spend time uncovering whether or not your prospect is a fit or not, only have business conversations with good-fit prospects

  • Clarify the need, urgency and timeliness of the fit with your prospects

  • Show empathy, show expertise, and ask probing questions that are genuine and make your prospect think

Writing prompts to journal it out:

  • Make a list of the thoughts you have when you have negative or worrisome thoughts as you prepare to make prospecting calls/outreach

  • Make a list of the “worst things that could happen” on a sales call

  • Make a list of the “best things that could happen” on a sales call

  • Make a list of the successful sales conversations you’ve had in the past and what you did that worked and why your prospect responded the way they did

  • Make a list of what will happen to your business if you choose not to prospect and have sales conversations

  • Make a list of what will happen to your business if you choose TO have prospecting conversations

In the end, when you become friends with prospecting and having sales conversations, you’ll become a more effective solopreneur and enjoy the opportunities that new clients bring to your learning and revenue to your business.🍀
