102: My First Business
As I “warned you,” about this first season being all about my journey, I had to include the early years of my education and pursuit of a creative career. In this episode I take you through my choice to go to art school and how that decision has shaped my entire career. But something deeper has driven my desire for autonomy, self-employment, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Those stories will unfold as the season continues…
Episode prompt
Not unlike the first episode prompt, reflect on your experience of choosing to be entrepreneurial. What did it feel like when you started your business? Or worked that passion project? Or did the pre-work and research to start your business or side hustle? What were the emotions, thoughts, worries, excitement, and everything you went through as you designed in your mind and in reality to go out on your own? To be the master of your future and life experience?
Many times we get so embroiled and distracted with the running of the business or the doing of the project we forget to reflect on how it all came into being. That creative step—that imagination, idea—that started it all is where the passion lives, the desire lives, the engine to thrust you forward to make it happen. Write/think about what that was for you.
